Pastor James L. Henderson

Pastor James L. Henderson, 82, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021, at his residence.  He was born January 17, 1939, in Charleston, West Virginia, son of the late Levi Henderson and Elsie Burton Henderson Shires.  Jim was married for 60 years to Brenda C. Griffith Henderson, who survives.

He has been a Pastor for over 60 years and was the Pastor of the McArthur Free Will Baptist Church for the last 25 years.  Jim was a United States Air Force Veteran, a retired clerk for South Central Conference of the Ohio Free Will Baptists, the former director of the Youth for Christ Camp in Hillsboro for over 25 years and was a member of the Heritage Christian School Alumni Association.

Along with his wife Brenda, Jim is survived by his son, James A. (Daphne) Henderson of Boca Raton, Florida; daughter, Joy Ellen Henderson of McArthur; grandchildren, Ashley A. (Luis) Hernandez, Megan K. Henderson, Jesse L. Henderson, and Lesley (Gage) Sowers; great grandchildren, Kailan and Eldyn Hernandez and Vance and Maren Sowers; brother-in-law, Jerry Griffith Jr. of McArthur and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, in the McArthur Free Will Baptist Church, 408 W. Main St., McArthur, with Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. and Rev. Mike Mounts officiating.  Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur.  Friends may call at the McArthur Free Will Baptist Church on Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Arrangements are by Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.
