Poindexter Paul Toney

Poindexter “Dexter” Paul Toney, 81, of McArthur, passed away Friday, May 31st, 2024, peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born March 25, 1943, in West Virginia, the son of the late Robert and Bertha Toney.

Dexter served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Dexter is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diana K. (McCathern) Toney; his children, Melissa K. Rollins, Lori M. Conner, Lottie M. (Tad) Darfus, Dexter Paul Toney, and Mary Ann (Bobby) Huston.  He is also survived by his brother, James (Jo) Toney; 11 grandchildren, Brett (Jessie) Huston, Cody Huston, Vanessa Stumpf, Stephani (Brandon) Leonard, Casey (Melissa) Huston, Cassie Toney, Jessie Toney, Eric Toney, Amanda Conner, Brandi McManus, and DeDee Rollins; and 10 great grandchildren.

Dexter was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Rosetta Brown and Mary Roder.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St, McArthur, with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating.  Interment will be in Keeton Cemetery, Vinton County, with Veteran military honors.  Family and friends may visit from 12 to 2 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
