Raymond L. Peoples, 90, of Ray, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born on October 6, 1934, in Allensville, Ohio, to the late Daryll Benjamin and Alta Anetta (Beltz) Peoples. He was married to Joey Mae (Rose) Peoples who survives.
At the age of 16 Raymond ran away to join the circus and returned 6 months later and joined the US Navy. He served in the Navy for 20 years. He was the Youngest man to make chief machinists mate at the age of 27 and made the newspaper at that time.
Raymond worked several places after retiring from the U.S Navy; from Eastern Roofing Company, truck driving, and Walmart being a few. He had a very strong faith in God and was always trying to win one more soul for God and helped people in need every chance he got.
Raymond is survived by his wife; children, Freddy (Shirley) Peoples of San Angelo, Texas, Steven (Virginia) Peoples of Norfolk, Virginia, Linda Grinels of Ray, and Helen Peoples of Norfolk, Virginia; stepdaughter, Lacy (Nathan) Lawwill of Ray; grandchildren, Tina Haney, Wendy (Micheal) Travis, Sandy Vaughn, Chad Peoples, Rebecca Peoples, James (Sherrie) Wrenn III, Dakota (Billie) Grinels, and Christopher (Tammy) Grinels, step-grandchildren, Rylan Young, Sadie Leffler, Eleak Grant, Natalie Lawwill, Zyon Arthur, and Braxton Lawwill; great grandchildren, Kaylee Gerdes, Micha and Ameila Grinels, Destiny Frango, and many more great grandchildren nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rosa M. Peoples; siblings, Harold Peoples, Frances Peoples, Annette Edwards, June Smith, Hazel Peoples, Mildred Stewart-Logan, and 2 older sisters that died during the depression; son in law, Steven Grinels; granddaughter, Heather Frango; and great grandchild, Johnathon Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St, McArthur, with Minister Danny Minton officiating. Interment will be in Bell Cemetery, Vinton County. Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
