Rodney W. “Butch” Johnston, 70, of McConnellsville, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth. He was born October 11, 1947, son of Ernest and Gertrude Locke Johnston.
Butch was a United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam.
He is survived by his children, Rodney (Jenna) Johnston, Samantha (Kevin) Woods and Catherine Johnston; several grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephews, Roger and Patty Farley, Tom (Toni) Quest, Robert (Betty) Farley, J.R. (Delta) Jolley, Jackie (Kelly) Jolley, David (Paula) Jolley and David (Sandy) Yablonski.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Geraldine Caliboso, Corrina Barnes, Mary Elliott and Marie Jolley; brothers, Richard, Harry, Walter “Fuzz”, Carroll and Rocky Johnston.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville where military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Friday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions in memory of Rodney W. Johnston be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ohio Charities, P.O. Box 15129, Columbus, Ohio 43215-0129.
