Russell Jay Stewart, 74, of McArthur, passed away at home after a brief illness, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, November 27, 2021. He was born on May 13, 1947, in Vinton County, son of the late Winnie and Mildred (Hill) Stewart.
Jay served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Jay was an avid hunter and fisherman. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was devoted to his family and friends and will forever be missed by anyone who knew him.
Jay is survived by his wife, Vanessa (Detty) Stewart; children, Susie Bartlett, Kevin (Susan) Stewart, and Kat Conrad; grandchildren, Tasha (JD) Castor, Zach (Megan) Kisor, Maria (Dasha) Bartlett, Olivia Conrad, and Sophia Conrad; great grandchildren, Jarrett Castor and Paisley Kisor; siblings, Ronald Stewart, Mary Herress, Don Stewart, Carolyn (Rick) Kraft, Wayne (Bert) Stewart, and Kathy Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his siblings, Virginia Ann Sheppard and John Stewart; and his beloved daughter, Tonya Kisor.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
