Shirley Elaine Hocter, 73, of Athens, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in The Plains. She was born May 22, 1945 in Zanesville, Ohio, daughter of the late James Joshua and Florence Ilene Kinney Dennis. Shirley was the widow of the late John Hocter.
She retired from Ohio University in Athens and was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski.
Shirley is survived by daughters, Kara (Scott) Dunfee of Athens and Kelly Chaffin of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Riley Kinnison, Tristan Kinnison, Skylar Kinnison, Kayla Dunfee, Marissa Dunfee and Johnathan Mace; sisters, Carol (Jerry) Miller of Zanesville, Beverly (Gene) Haver of California, Lillian Adams of Zanesville and Linda (Clint) Brumback of Sterling, Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Long.
Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018 at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Zaleski, with Father Sean Dooley and Father David Young officiating. Interment will be in Radcliff Cemetery, Radcliff. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Shirley Hocter to Hickory Creek Renaissance Unit, 51 E. 4 th St., The Plains, Ohio 45780.
