Wilbur "Shorty" Howard Ellis

Wilbur Howard “Shorty” Ellis, 86, of McArthur, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.  He was born October 5, 1936, in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Manley M. and Alice Ely Ellis.  Shorty was married to the late Betty Coffey Ellis.

He was a United States Army Veteran and retired from Austin Powder Company.

Shorty is survived by his stepson, John (Mary) Craig of McArthur; stepdaughters, Doris “Dot” (Jeff) Harris of Zaleski, Sarah (Don) Barker of Boise, Idaho, Betty Mansperger of Londonderry, Brenda (Steve) Carrington of Englewood, Florida, Shirley (Keith) Sheets of Londonderry and Joyce Wright of Wellston; girlfriend, Betty Thacker of Allensville; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Eggleston of Florida; son-in-law, Richard Myers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his former companion, Ruth Evans; granddaughter, Sherry Myers; sister, Barbara Amick; brothers, Kenneth and Arthur Ellis; stepbrothers, Walter and Junior Stephenson and stepdaughter, Patricia Myers.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.  Interment will be in Madison Township Cemetery in Zaleski, with military honors being conducted by the United States Army.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
