Dennis E. Bishop

May 13, 1957 — November 9, 2016

Dennis E. Bishop, age 59 of McArthur Ohio, died November 9, 2016 at the Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus, Ohio after a well fought battle against cancer.

Dennis was born on May 13, 1957 in Wellston Ohio at Dr Hambrick's office to Dorothy R Beabout Bishop and Mac L Bishop. He is survived by his wife Judy Bishop of McArthur; daughter Lauren Bishop of Logan, Ohio: father Mac Bishop and his wife Mary of Chillicothe, Ohio; sister Dian Perkins and her husband Brian of Wellston, Ohio; nephew Chad Moore and his wife Brandi and their children Taylor, Broc and Jase; niece Brooke Sowers and her husband Justin and their children Olivia and Henry; nephew Brian E. Perkins; in-laws Gayle and Charles Young of McArthur; brother-in-law Jeffrey Young of Hamden; neighbor Eleanor Benedict, who was like a second mother; Darwin the wonder dog who was a great comfort to Dennis during his illness; and his brothers of the McArthur Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy.

Dennis earned his undergraduate degree in secondary education, followed by his Masters degree in molecular botany from Ohio University. Once completing his education, he joined the staff of Adena Local Schools in Frankfort, Ohio as a high school biology teacher. He served as adjunct faculty for Ohio University teaching anatomy/physiology and microbiology courses for several years. He loved teaching and his students and was so proud when he received the 2016 Senior Class Award from his Adena students.

Dennis always had a great sense of adventure. He spent his youth in Hamden Ohio terrorizing the neighborhood with his dirt bike earning him the nickname of "Evil Knievel", later advancing to enduro racing. His next adventures involved learning to scuba dive. He later decided to explore the skies, earning his private pilot certification. Several years after moving to McArthur, he joined the McArthur Fire Department becoming a firefighter. He soon discovered being a firefighter was the second greatest love of his life, his family being first. His weekends were spent captaining his boat on the Ohio River with his dear friends from Dock 5. He had a green thumb and enjoyed making his yard look beautiful.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 in the McArthur United Methodist Church, 200 S. Market St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating.
